Friday Five- Cleansers

Cleansing is the most important step in a skincare regime. If your skin isn’t properly cleansed nothing can work into your skin and will just sit on the top of the skin. Cleansing should be done in the morning after sleeping and in the evening before bed regardless of wearing makeup or not. The type of cleanser you use depends on your skin type. Apply a 10 cent amount of cleanser to your hand and massage around your face, neck and chest. (Always work products down to the chest) Leave the cleanser on for at least 1-2 minutes before washing off. Remove with a luke warm face cloth. If you have been wearing makeup a second cleanse is needed to insure everything is removed.

Types of Cleansers:

Oil:
I love to pre-cleanse (cleanse first) with a oil if I am wearing a lot of makeup. The oil removes everything from the skin without clogging the pores. Oil cleansers are great for breakout prone skin. Apply a pump to your hand and massage well into the skin and even bring up to eye makeup. Add some water after 1-2 mins then wash off.
Creams:
Nice and gentle for sensitive skins or dry skin types. Massage into skin and leave on for 1-2 mins and wash off.
Gels:
Mix with water in your hand then apply and work into skin. Great for all skin types especially oily.
Foams
Similar to gel base cleansers but more drying on the skin so best for oily/acne skin types.
Cleansing Brushes:
Great to use with any gel cleanser to give a deeper cleanse. Examples of these is the foreo and clarisonic. I know there are other brands out there but these are the two I am familiar with. Definitely worth the investment. They have a slight exfoliating action on the skin so the skin is deeply cleansed and dead skin build up removed. Only use x1-2 week. Pictured below is My favorite, the foreo.

Pictured above are my current cleansers, I pick one to use depending on how my skin feels at the time.
Human and Kind (Cork, Ireland owned) organic cream cleanser. Dermalogica Pre cleanse oil. Dermaquest Glycolic cleanser which I treat as a mask and leave on for 5-10 mins to let the glycolic acid work. La Colline active cleansing cream cleanser and La Colline active wash off cleanser.

What is your favorite cleanser?
