Serum VS Moisturiser

''Your skin doesn't know how old it is, it acts on how you treat it''

Serums are like a liquid substance and Moisturisers are a heavier cream base.

Moisturiser is designed to hydrate and nourish the cells in our skin. Every skin type needs one. We have 5 main layers in the upper part of the skin, and moisturiser reaches the top 2-3 layers.  This is where serum’s differ to moisturisers.  Serums have a smaller molecule size meaning they can penetrate deeper into the lower layers of the skin and re-educate how the skin cells are forming. They have the ability to reach down to where the skin cells are been made, putting a barrier around them, protecting them and making sure they continue to grow healthy, resulting in better looking skin on the outside. The more our cells are damaged and broken down in the layers of the skin, the more concerns we see on the outside of our skin.

Serums are full of essential nutrients and antioxidants that help protect and repair our skin. Some have anti-ageing ingredients helping with fine lines and wrinkles, stimulating our collagen and elastin fibres in the skin and others have antibacterial ingredients fighting breakouts and acne.

A serum wont replace your moisturiser it will just boost your over all skin’s appearance.
Moisturiser is essential for hydration and moisture in the skin helping with flakiness and dullness. But moisturiser doesn’t have the same effects on the skin as a serum does.

Serum should be applied after cleansing skin, and before moisturiser. Twice a day.

Most of us have been using a moisturiser from a early age but when should you start using a serum?

If you start to use a serum before the signs of damage occur on the skin you’ll be on the right track for a even complexion and firmer healthier skin as you age. Your skin doesn’t know how old it is, it acts on you treat it. Of course serums work on skin that is damaged such as pigmentation(brown sun spots), but sooner is better than later when it comes to using one.

There are lots of serums out there, it all depends on your skin concerns. Have your skin professionally analysed before you invest in a good serum.

Serums are the game changer for your skin.

If you do one thing this month, invest in a serum for yourself. But, remember it can take up to 21 days for any changes to happen in the skin so have patience if you want to see the results.

Let us know which serum and moisturiser you use below!

      Lots of  Love,
