Oily Skin Type

''Healthy, Hydrated Cells are the key to
Ageless Skin and a Healthy Body''
A shiny t-zone, congested nose, blackheads, large pores and occasional breakouts are all part of the family when it comes to having an oily skin type. But the good news is you can help the appearance of all of these buggers with a proper skincare routine, and active ingredients in your products.

Something you may not have known about having oily skin is…. It’s actually a good thing to have in the long run, because you will age a lot slower due to producing lots of oil in the skin.

What you need to do in your skincare routine if you have oily skin?

  • Cleanse twice a day with a product containing something like glycolic, or salicylic acid. These are active ingredients and will help prevent an over dose of oil production which can lead to excess shine and breakouts.

  • Exfoliate x2-3 times a week, again with an active product so you will buff away all the dead skin cells on the top of the skin. Allowing and making room for the newer cells to reach to the surface. This will also brighten the skin.

  • Mud/Clay/Charcoal Face Masks x1-2 a week to tighten and help refine pores making them seem smaller and cleaner. These masks help with antibacterial properties in the skin, fighting blackheads and breakouts. They are designed to absorb the excess oil on the skin so the skin is left more radiant. Read about my favourite budget clay mask here.

  • You want to avoid any heavy emollient rich creams on your skin if its oily. Look for ‘lightweight’oil free’ creams. But you don’t want to skip moisturising at all because even though your skin may be oily, it can still be dehydrated(lacking moisture).

  • I'm no MUA, but when it comes to makeup, Be careful choosing foundations, always look for something ‘matt’ and ‘non comedogenic’ which means it won’t clog your pores. And always use a primer which helps set the make-up.

  • Mineral powders are great to wear on top of your foundation to prevent the foundation from moving throughout the day/night due to excess oil flow in the skin and covering any areas that are extra shiny, like the forehead may be.

  • I tried these oil blotting sheets a few weeks ago in penneys and they really work. I used them on the days that my forehead was shiny after applying moisturiser, before I put on make-up.

  • Dermarolling/skin needling is meant to be a really amazing treatment for those with large pores. I have yet to try this and I will be trying it pretty soon so I shall report back to you.

*My top tip....
Apply Clay mask on areas that are shiny, breakouts, large pores over night and remove in the morning. The area will have really improved.
